How Do You Know if You Are Average?
In the poker world, you need to tailor your training and practice to your skill level. If you try to integrate professional techniques into your game when you are just an average player, the results will be disastrous. The same effect will happen if you spend all of your time looking at beginner tips when you have advanced past that skill level. The question that you should ask yourself before you try to improve your game is: What is my skill level? How do you know if you are an average player, or if you have specialized needs?
The only way that you can ever know your skill level is by keeping accurate records. You need to keep track of how often you win, how often you lose, and what stakes are the most profitable for you. If you don’t have this kind of hard data to work with, you will just be going off of your gut impression. Many a good poker player has been mislead in their poker education because they don’t realize that they are average. There is a human tendency to believe that we are better than we are. Good note taking skills will make sure that you will know if you are average, and what you can do to make your game above average.
