7 Reasons Why It Is Important To Have Goals

I recently had a conversation with one of my former students. She has been out of school for a few years now but isn’t satisfied with the direction her career has taken. In fact, she’s not too happy with her personal life either. Her voice developed more than a touch of whine as she said: “I don’t know what to do.”

So I asked her about her goals. Her response was a rather slack-jawed look of surprise. “Goals?” Well at least she wasn’t whining anymore.

I asked her what she would like to see her career in a few years. I asked her where she’d like to see her life in a few years. She knew the answers to those questions and quickly became animated as she discussed her desire to start her own business. We talked about what she would need to accomplish her goal and what she would have to change.

When we parted ways she felt a lot better about her job because she knew that she wasn’t trapped in it. She was taking a necessary step to prepare herself for a long-term goal. She had her eye on the prize and that focus energized her.

That is the power of goals. What are your goals? There are seven reasons why you need to have goals.

~ To give direction to life
~ To make sure we are the one choosing the direction of our life — not others, not fate, not the media, etc.
~ To motivate
~ To make sure we get what we want from life
~ To save time
~ To reduce stress
~ To give a sense of accomplishment

While it can be fun to live without direction in the short-term, in the long-term human beings are wired to need a purpose and direction. Goals give a sense of direction and purpose to life.

It is often easy to let others set our direction for us. We take a job because family or friends point us in that direction and then we follow the dictates of our bosses. We move in other directions because popular culture or the media tells us to do so. The simple truth is that if we do not set our own goals then we will find it too easy to follow a path set by others. This can lead to stress and unhappiness. We have a greater chance of happiness and fulfillment following our own path and pursuing our own goals.

While goals certainly give our lives direction, they also provide the motivation to get us through difficult times and choices. Perhaps going to college at night while working full-time may be stressful and difficult in the short-term, but in the long run being able to pursue the professional goals we desire will make it worthwhile.

Goals also serve as the destination for what we really want out of life. For some people, goals are measured in money or material goods, while for others goals are measured in time or freedom. If we do not have goals outlined that suit our unique perspective on life it is easy to become sidetracked by life and others.

Goals can also help save time. When your “To Do” list becomes too long and your calendar too full, then you can simply compare your goals to the list. What items help you achieve your goal? What items are necessary to your goal? Scratch off the rest as unimportant.

Just as goals save time they also reduce stress because using your goals to focus your life and choices makes it easier to make those choices. Should you take that new position at work? How does it match your goals?

Finally, goals give you a measurable sense of accomplishment. Every goal you achieve, in fact every step you make toward that goal, can give you a boost of energy and momentum to keep going. Each success powers you toward the next level of success.

Now go out and set your goals!

Fantastic Audio-Books: Finding Time to Fit them into Your Daily Routine

An active life makes it troublesome to fit in all the books you would like to read. Lengthy journeys to the office and mundane chores might eat up large chunks of your time everyday. Your favourite hobbies get pushed aside for more urgent projects. If you really love learning and find it troublesome to fit it in, your commute may provide an opportunity for catching up. Thanks to download technology, it’s easy to indulge in Still Life With Crows by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child by Download Audio Book Online, or audiobooks brought to life by David Sedaris without even picking up the book.

Making the best of your day is becoming a way of life these days. Audiobooks such as Sure Fire by Jack Higgins by Download Audio Book Online fill the dead moments in our daily routine, it might be minutes passed waiting at the dental surgery or taking the kids to piano lessons. Audio-books are available to download as media data files suitable for your PC, laptops and media players for example Pimsleur Russian II & III Complete Courses by Dr. Paul Pimsleur, and if you have an iPod or another mp3 player and get ready to check out a best seller or a fantastic novel, like audio books by H. Rider Haggard without carrying a heavy book around.

An added advantage of audio titles is renting or purchasing the title of your choice then listening to it in your own time. Interested in studying another language? Why not give audiobooks a shot? You can catch up on current business practises, you can even find out about religious or spiritual trends.

An extended selection of genres and titles are available. It doesn’t matter if you’re a wine devotee, crazy about science fiction and fantasy or interested in personal development, many can be downloaded at once. Numerous programs are open; it’s simple to take a subscription to a program and hire your choice of audio book or make a purchase.

Reading will always have its place, but a more convenient way may be the tremendous variety of audio titles available today. A narrator can enhance the experience of many books. Just reading a book isn’t quite the same as enjoying audio titles narrated by J. M. Barrie, with the additional niceties presented during a performance. Your reading experience can be elevated when you listen to audio titles like Birds of Prey by J. A. Jance and in many cases can mean a great deal more than the words on a page. So don’t forget about audiobooks when you next want to purchase books, audio-books are a fantastic means of squeezing all the titles you like into a frantic life.

Get What You Wish For!

I’ve done a lot of research, study, and practice in the area of goal-setting, and I’m happy to report that I’ve achieved much of what I’ve set out to do. However, for many years, I overlooked an important component in wish-fulfillment.

I’m a believer in setting goals and writing them down. I’m also a believer in setting up a plan for consistent followup, in order to stay on top of those goals. I’ve made advances in my career, increases in my salary, and a lot of other good things happen in my life.

But what I didn’t believe in was all that weird, spiritual, magnetic, attraction/abundance stuff. It smacked of hocus-pocus to me. Its advocates seemed little more than snake oil salespeople to me. Who needs all of that when all you need to do is set your goals and compile a system of to-do lists?

Then a friend of mine pointed something out to me that was astonishing.

Some of my goals were achieved through sheer will and might. It was like plowing through cement to achieve some of the things I’ve achieved. It was exhausting!

But other goals were achieved almost effortlessly. It was as if the Universe aligned itself in support of my goals. Help appeared when I needed it. Resources appeared when they were required. Even money found its way into my account when I most needed it.

I had never given this much thought before. If I had, I would have dismissed it by saying that it’s just the way the world works. Some things are harder than others, sometimes you have good luck, and a lot of it is just random and inexplicable.

Then my friend asked me what my mindset had been during the pursuit of my various goals. I realized that when I had a negative goal in mind, the going was much rougher than when I had a positive goal in mind.

Let me provide a couple of examples:

I had a horrible job that I hated. I sent resumes out and went on interviews but with no success. When I finally was hired somewhere else, the job turned out to be barely better than the first one. The pay was slightly better and the work was slightly better, but it was nothing even approaching the job of my dreams.

My problem was that I was only focused on getting a better job than the one I had, and I was focused on the crappiness of my existing job. So I got what I wanted - a slightly better job. But it was still crappy.

A few years later, I changed my focus. I obliterated my entire work history from my considerations, and framed in my mind the ideal job I wanted. During one of my clerical stints, I worked from someone that seemed to have a wonderful job. Not only did he seem to have a splendid salary and get to hobnob with all kinds of interesting, high-profile people, but he had his own secretary (me).

My career began to escalate, and today, interestingly enough, I’m doing the same job that my boss had been doing. I’m actually earning a higher salary, as well. (I’m not trying to brag - I’m just trying to show you that this stuff works!) I’m doing exactly what I had imagined.

Now, when I fantasize about what I want as I set my goals, I do so much more carefully! Instead of focusing on what I don’t want in my life, I focus on what I do want. Instead of thinking “I wish I weren’t so tired,” I think “I wish for more energy!” Instead of thinking “I wish I didn’t have to go to work,” I think “I wish I could do more of what I love to do on the job!”

I know many of you reading this are already on board with all of this. I’ve been amazed at the number of people who chime in when I share this information with them. They’ve been doing this for years. It works! If you’re new to this, I encourage you to learn more about it. Go to any search engine and type in “law of attraction” or “abundance” or “intention.” You’ll be amazed!

Goals for Growth

When I started my business career, I started in sales and marketing. I found that after trying to teach school and coach baseball, I was a good teacher and a great baseball coach. But I could not stand dealing with the parents. I loved working with the kids. The one thing I was always able to do was sell people on my ideas. It was either belief or sales ability or a combination of both, but I always got my ideas accepted.

I then figured sales was my avenue to success. Actually, I was right. I have been a top producer for a yellow page company, an advertising company and the top annuity producer for an insurance company. I have taught people to be better sales people and make more money. I have turned sales organizations from bottom feeders to kings of the hill. How did I do this? Read on.

I began to study long ago the art of using NLP or Neuro-Linguistic Programming. It is the art of speaking using embedded commands, voice inflection, and reading your prospect. When you master the art of using NLP, you will master the art of selling and get VERY FEW objections. I have studied under the masters of using NLP. Tony Robbins, yes that Tony Robbins, was my first introduction to NLP. I have studied, Marshall Sylver, a hypnotist and success trainer that uses what he calls “Hypnotic Selling”, Duane Lakin, PhD, a master at NLP training for management, salespeople and telemarketing, and Bill Twyford, a real estate investor that is an expert at writing scripts and using embedded commands. These people have taken me to a new level of sales and sales training.

Goals for growth is actually an acronym. Everyone needs goals.

G stands for greater power. I dont know who you are or what you believe, but I feel there is a greater power in the world. To me it is God, to you it may be Buddha, Allah, or even “The Force” if you are a Star Wars fan. Whatever it is there is a greater force out there. Are you close with that greater power, are you searching for it. If and when you find it, you will be unstoppable.

R stands for realtionships. What relationships mean the most to you. Is it your realtionship with the greater power, your spouse, your family? I personally believe you should have a ranking system to this. Are you interested in building relationships?

O stands for outlook. What is your outlook to life? Are you a positive thinker? Is the glass half full or half empty? Negative thougths cloud our vision, judgement, and outlook. I want postive people around me. I dont know about you, but I dont have time in my life for negativity. I make a lot of money because I follow a process. If you were financially free, what you you be doing right now?

W stands for wealth. How are you going to become wealthy? What is your process going to be? I have a wealth strategy that is time tested. I can show you. Just follow my lead.

T stands for time. Some people can get more done in 24 hours than some in 24 days. Using your time effectively is paramount. If you are to be successful you have to deligate your time, and treat it as an asset.

H stands for health. You have heard the saying “if you have your health you have everything” Actually they are right. you need to be in good condition to lead yourself to success. How are you going to enjoy the fruits of your labor six feet under?

Take advantage of Goals for Growth and see your way to the top

Family Pride

There is an old joke about what one junior firecracker said to another, “My pop is bigger than your pop!” And this claim often is made among young ones today. Maybe not in so many words, but the pride of having the best dad in the world is common.

Jesus tells us clearly in scripture that this adage is not to be the case: “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:37) We often put our focus on and pride in our families. Nothing comes before family. Everything is done for the good of the family. But then family becomes the idol of our lives rather than Jesus. It is a seductive and almost invisible truth.

But take heart! Jesus knows we all love our families and want the best for them. He will enable us to continue loving them yet transfer our first love to Him. How? One step at a time! We shift gears by first saying it; then confirming it with our families; and finally being able to demonstrate it, one situation at a time. It’s not a natural thing to say and do. Yet with Jesus: God first, family next, and then church, will become a litany as natural as breathing and eating. Let’s give our families to Jesus! He know best, just like Father knows best!

Searching for Silence in a Noisy World

Searching for Silence in a Noisy World
by Patrice Fagnant-MacArthur

When was the last time you were surrounded by silence? It seems that background noise is an ever-present reality of our world. The T.V. and radio are our constant companions. Our children play with electronic toys that beep and wail at the push of a button. Our streets are full of roaring engines, tooting horns, and the pounding of construction. At night, we may run a fan or have an air conditioner humming in the background. We do not even sleep in silence. The sounds of nature and indeed the sounds of our own mind are drowned out by the constant din.

What is it about silence that makes us so uncomfortable? While we have little control over many of the noises of our world, what about the ones we can control? How often do we make the conscious choice to turn off the background noise, to pay attention to that which is within us? What is it that we are afraid we will find? It is in those all too rare moments of silence that we can truly come to know ourselves.

Only two people who have known each other a great deal can sit comfortably in silence. Among new acquaintances, we force ourselves to keep the conversation going. Silence feels forced and awkward. In the intimacy of an old friendship or within a marriage, however, the silence can be comforting. We do not feel the need to always come up with something to talk about. There is no pressure to perform. Nothing is forced. We are free to just be in the presence of the other.

So should it be in our relationship with God. In our prayer, our conversation with God, do we always feel the need to be talking? Do we ever stop to listen? God, who loves us and knows us more intimately than any human ever could, exists within us and invites us to just be in the presence of the divine. Obviously, conversation with God and being with God is different from our human relationships. In our interpersonal encounters, we can see the person with whom we are conversing, we can hear their voice on the telephone, or read an email from a friend. With God, we need to trust that He is always there with us, whether we sense Him or not. It is up to us to open ourselves to the possibility of experiencing God. In silence, we can more fully allow ourselves to be open to that possibility.

So, how can we make silence a habit in our lives? Admittedly, it is a challenge. Debra Farrington in Hearing with the Heart: A Gentle Guide to Discerning God?s Will for your Life (Jossey-Bass, 2003) suggests beginning with just five minutes a day. Perhaps either before or after a time of formal prayer, we can carve out a place for silence. If the background noise of your home is prohibitive, perhaps a walk outside or retreating to the bathroom will provide the needed relief from noise. In that time, Harrington recommends not only attempting to distance ourselves from the sounds of the world, but also from the noise inside our minds. Try not to focus on the problems of the day or the to-do list of chores that need to be done. Try to just be in the presence of God. In time, we should be as comfortable in silence with God as we are with our intimate friends, and we should begin to hear God?s voice a little louder in our lives.

How to Find Cheap Printer Inks

Cheap printer inks are an essential component of a printer, since they contain the necessary ink that is spread on the paper during the printing process. A good quality printer cartridge ensures you always get good quality images.

The quality of printing by an ink jet printer largely depends on the smooth and continuous flow of ink. So, once the flow of ink slows down, to change the printer ink jet toners or cartridge. Various types of inkjet Printer ink cartridges are available in market. These include high priced printer ink jet cartridges manufactured by original equipment manufacturers such as Dell, Epson, etc., as well as non-branded compatible or re manufactured printer inkjet cartridges.

Workings of Printer Ink Cartridges

Most printers, including Canon and HP, use thermal inkjet while printers manufactured by Epson use Piezoelectric Inkjets. The purpose of both types of printer is to ensure the smooth supply of ink to get a good result.
In thermal inkjet printer cartridges, each ink reservoir partition contains a heating element that responds to the signals provided by the printer by warming up. However, if the ink in the Printer Ink toners and cartridges is not good, the print will not produce a smooth result. The ink in the printer inkjet cartridges also acts as a coolant for the heating elements. If it dries up, this can result in damage to the printer head.

Types and Pricing of Cheap Printer Inks

Although most printer manufacturers recommend their own inkjet printer cartridges, several cheaper options are available. Inkjet Print Inkjet cartridges manufactured by these OEMs are generally quite costly, so many users prefer to use cheaper versions that are not only compatible with their printers but also provide good quality printing.

The cheaper inkjet printer cartridges are brand new products, with new components, and deliver the same quality as do OEM products. Another option is the professionally remanufactured inkjet printer cartridges that have been used once, emptied, cleaned and refilled to match OEM standards.

A Rainbow Reminder Series Article “I Am Cured Of MS!” Rascal Shouts From The Rooftop: “CURED”!!!

You might be interested in a e~mail reply I just sent to a person with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) who asked me how I was recently cured? I was also cured of having to worry about money…LOL

Hey “Curious Cathy,”

I doubt that most will want to believe the “How” circumstances involving my cure…LOL… They don’t even ask. You did, and God will reward you too :)

Probably, it is best to suggest that you visit my website milesbooks.com to get a full explanation. Yet, after being reluctantly forced to retire by MS ~ 5 years ago ~ and trying everything in the world (including LDN) to turn it around, I’d continued to become more disabled, spent the last 8 months confined to my wheelchair, and had everything BUT given up…

Read my last two “Rascal’s blog” entries for what’s happened in the last couple of weeks ~ leading up to my being cured, this week. I feel that you will understand, Cathy, what most “Earth~bound souls” can never begin to accept.

Read my new “Earth~Angel” section and about ‘A Rainbow Reminder’ for more answers, Cathy. I suspect that you may be an Earth~Angel also :) After all, you ARE the only MSer who has even asked. Perhaps, the very reason that The Lord has told me to stay in the LDN MS support group?

I trust that you do not mind that I am sending this explanation to a few others ~ that haven’t asked ~ yet. I feel that they would like to know. In fact, I’ve just been told to use this e-mail (without your last name or addie) in a new ezine article to shout “I Am Cured” to the world. It will take a few days before it is published, is reviewed & comments posted by my “1st Team” readers, but if you like, you can be an evaluator too. Let me know, O.K.?

I think, I’ll walk over and make another mocha…LOL… There, I’m back! I even stopped by the restroom to do what ~ for about a year and a half ~ I had to do sitting down…LOL

You can IM me via Skype (milesbooks) or Yahoo (milesruss2002) as can anyone else who wishes to talk with me personally. I look forward to chatting with you,”Curious Cathy” :) LOL

As for future e-mails, please change my addie to Rascal.Miles at gmail.com

~Hugs~
